Today in our MEMEing of Life series, we’re going to take a closer look at this meme:
It says, “Success is the sum of small efforts, repeated day in and day out.”
Whether we’re talking about losing weight, getting healthier, starting a business, getting a degree or paying off debt, taking on a large goal can leave you feeling overwhelmed and ready to abandon the objective before you even get started.
Often this occurs due to failures you’ve experienced in the past, or because you don’t know where to start.
And it makes sense. In a world where almost anything you need or desire can be obtained with the touch of a button, text or email, the idea of long-term goals and hard work can feel insurmountable. But you must consider the fact that anything big and important achieved by humans was done through a series of very small steps. You’ve heard the saying, “Rome wasn’t built in a day.” Well, it’s true. Rome was built little by little, stone by stone. Just like the Egyptian pyramids, the skyscrapers of New York and Chicago—even your very own house was built a little at a time.
The key to success is to take action in small chunks instead of setting goals for yourself that are too far out of reach. With small steps, you gain a feeling of daily success that keeps you moving forward.
Getting a feeling of success more often through the accomplishment of many smaller goals will help motivate you to keep going. Tackling a string of smaller goals each day, week or month will continue to move you forward toward your larger goal. Everything you do each day, no matter how small, will put you that much closer to your objective.
Most importantly, don’t give up. You may not reach your end goal as quickly as you would like, but in the end, your hard work and determination will be well worth your effort. Remember, it all adds up!
