Get Organized

Did you know that being unorganized is one of the most common causes of stress? Some people are born to be organized while others are only organized when their job requires them to be. Getting organized can be a daunting task, but once you start a system and stick with it, it allows for a much more relaxed approach to the week. Being organized can mean a number of different things. Some people find organization in the form of a monthly calendar on their refrigerator or desk with all the days’ tasks detailed on them. Other people find organization in their iPad, tablet, or laptop’s “notes” sections and calendar. Personally, I find organization in all the places listed above and then some.

Post-it notes, calendars, notebooks, and my gmail account are my best friends when it comes to organization. I have post-it notes all over my desk for use during random phone calls, walk-ins, or meetings where I need to jot down a quick note, such as a name, phone number, or brief message. Although it’s not a long term solution to getting organized, as soon as the note is transferred to it’s final destination it can be pitched in the trash and you can move on to your next task. I have a large desk calendar that I jot quick notes on when needed but the majority of my calendar is maintained through my phone, which syncs all my different calendars into one location for me. I oftentimes catch myself referencing it while trying to set follow up appointments or set a meeting with some co-workers at the click of a finger. Then there is my trust notebook, which I never leave home without. It’s like a piece of me that I’m not willing to part with. Each and every detail of my task and project lists are detailed in a spiral notebook which is labeled with what project or department it pertains too. It offers easy access to all the details I’ve compiled throughout the task or project without having to physically be on my computer. I highly recommend a notebook for note taking for anyone who seems to forget all the minute details of projects, tasks, or jobs that they’re assigned too. Lastly, my gmail account allows me to instant message, check my email, check my calendar, or grab someone’s phone number with the click of a button while in my office, on the road, or at a client’s house.

These four objects have become crucial to helping me get organized over the past few years. By utilizing these four things, I have realized that I am a much more organized, happy, and thorough person. If you are stressed out by your never ending to do list then try two of the techniques listed above and you’ll be surprised at how much more organized you will feel.
