Confidence is a line that so many people are afraid to cross for the sake of coming off as arrogant. The problem with this is that so many people I know and coach is that they automatically become under confident for fear of walking this line, which in my experience is a recipe for disaster. I can honestly tell you that so much of my success in business, sports, relationships and life could not have been obtained without confidence. SO LISTEN UP! You need to get this right!
Everyone has down days and gets in slumps so here our 5 tips to help you get back on track:
“The moment you doubt whether you can fly, you cease forever to be able to do it.”
– J.M. Barrie, Peter Pan
Dress the Part
Experts will tell you to dress for success which is definitely true, but I have a little spin to add to that because I want you to be the hero in your own story. When I say dress the part I mean just that. You know which clothes make you feel like a million bucks so fill your wardrobe with as many things that just make you want to go out and crush the day to bring out the most confident you.
Start Your Day Positive and Keep Reminders Close By
I suggest always start your day positive whether it be ten minutes of good reading or a positive video (find out what works for you). For me it’s getting up early and exercising while listening to something positive. I would also take at least 3 positive breaks throughout the day to make sure you wash any (for lack of a better word) negative BS out of your brain that naysayers or co-workers may have put there. I even created a small card that fits in my business card holders and wallet so that I have it with me at all times with some affirmations I made up for myself and read daily to always keep myself on track.
Keep a gratitude journal or at least set up a time for reflection on all of the great positive things happening in your life. This is a great way to bring a smile to your face and make you feel good.
Fix Your Posture
It’s crazy but this is such an easy fix. Stop for a minute and fix your posture, stand tall and see automatically how much better you feel. If you are slumped over your attitude and confidence will follow that slumpy vibe. I always use Dwayne (The Rock) Johnson as an example when I am explaining this to people just watch him walk and you can see the confidence glowing with his posture.
Do Something Nice For Someone
This is the #1 secret to get out of that pity party anti-confidence slump. Go out and do something nice for somebody else and you will automatically start to feel better about yourself. The more you give the better you feel (it doesn’t have to be money it can just be pure and genuine kindness and compliments). It never fails this is the quickest way to get back to being confident!
