A town called Paulding, Ohio, just twenty-five miles from my hometown has been shaken from the tragedy that just happened in Chattanooga, Tennessee. One of their very own, Petty Officer 2nd Class Randall Smith was killed during the senseless event that took place at the recruitment center he was at. At the young age of twenty-six, he leaves behind a wife and three young daughters. It is startling to me that it happened so close to home, but it’s even more startling to think it could happen to any one of us at any given time. The loss of young adults and especially children always pulls a little harder at the heart strings and this instance was no different as so many lives were lost. This tragedy has opened my eyes to the fact that our future is not guaranteed.
I came across this quote in one of my readings and it has really stuck with me the past few days after learning of the passing of Randall:
“Go for it now. The future is promised to no one.” –Wayne Dyer
I cannot help but think about the future that Randall and his family had planned. It makes me think about the future plans I see for myself, and I wonder what I can do TODAY to ensure I can watch all of my dreams come true. If you love someone, TELL them. If you have a goal, GO FOR IT. There is no guarantee for tomorrow, so live every day like it is your last. Go for it now, as you never know what tomorrow will bring.
